History

Hague Saskatchewan

Mr, Hague was a bridge and a railroad engineer at the time the C.P.R. line was built from Regina to Prince Albert in 1890.  At a meeting of engineers is was casually suggested that the unnamed siding north of Osler be named after Mr. Hague and it immediately stuck.  Later Mr. Hague owned and operated the Windsor Hotel in Vancouver.

In 1883 George Lovell took out the first homestead in the district.  The railway came in 1890.  By 1901 Hague was booming; four elevators and a flour mill were built that year.  By 1904 - 05 the population was about 150.

A disastrous fire in September of 1904 destroyed an entire business block starting at the Leland Hotel and ending at Born's Livery Barn.  The following winter, in 1905 another four businesses were destroyed including Peter's Furniture with fire starting at the center of the block and burning north.
